Linford is originally from Melbourne, Australia, and has been a member of Australia PGA since 1973. Voted Australian trainee of the year in 1975, Linford has held Head Professional positions at Eastwood G.C, Hunting Dale G.C, and for Austgolf Corporation.Linford is also an experienced club fitter; he was consistently ranked in the top 10 personal club fitters for Henry Griffith's since 1994. In July 2000, Linford joined Mission Hills Golf Academy and enrolled on the DLGA training programme when the Academy established its first location in China
